Her self-titled YouTube channel has one of the highest subscribers in the Philippines. She chose Alex Gonzaga as her stage name when she moved in 2008. Taytay, a first-class, densely populated Rizal municipality, is where she grew up.

Alex's only sibling is Toni, whose full name is Celestine Cruz, Gonzaga Soriano. Toni is four years older, hence Alex's senior. Alex's first acting opportunity came from ABS-CBN, her sister Toni's home network. She starred as Alex Sy in the now-defunct weekly teen sitcom Let's Go, which aired in 2006. She eventually used the first name of her character as her screen name. Alex played the same role in "Gokada Go!", the replacement for Let's Go! until the show was canceled in 2007. Alex appeared in the drama series Pangarap Na Bituin the same year, playing the cheerful best friend of lead star Sarah Geronimo.
