In the recently concluded Bb. Pilipinas 2023, the candidates donned their costumes to represent their hometown in the world stage. One highlight of the said part of the event, was Miss Cebu’s Santo Nino inspired costume which she proudly wore in the historical Basilica Del Santo Nino Church in Cebu City, Philippines.

When the pictures were released through the Bb. Pilipinas’ official page and the candidate’s social media page, the costume was highly critiqued and received flak for being uninspired and potentially offensive. Thus, the costume was allegedly looked at as a mockery to the Patron of Cebu—Senior Santo Nino because of its “cosplay” feel and tackiness.

The criticized costume was allegedly a twin replica of Santo Nino’s original clothing. The details of the attire was copied from the hair down to the placement of the gold and red motif.

The Basilica Del Santo Nino has released a statement saying that they were not informed nor involved of Miss Cebu’s costume and its publishing online.
