Moira Dela Torre is a singer and songwriter known for her heartfelt and emotional songs, like Tagpuan, Paubaya, Ikaw at Ako and she is credited as the primary songwriter for many of her tracks. However, it's important to note that in the music industry, collaboration and co-writing are common practices, and artists often work with other songwriters to create their music. But! that is where the allegations start to come in—the so-called collaborations.

THE BREAKUP

Let’s backtrack to when Moira called it quits with ex-husband Jason Marvin in 2022. The estranged husband posted in his Facebook page owning up to his mistakes and shortcoming in the relationship and that he allegedly cheated on his then wife.

“I take full responsibility and I’m doing my best to be better. From the bottom of my heart, I’m sorry for everyone I hurt. Especially Moi,” Marvin wrote.

The said statement broke the internet and all of a sudden everyone felt bad for Moira. That’s when fans started speculating that the falling of the relationship was the inspiration behind the sad, sad lyrics and melody of Dela Torre’s songs. Everyone was on her side.

The attention catapulted Moira’s career and fans fell in love with her even more because her music is starting to make sense and is very “relatable”—she is basically the Adele of the Philippines.

But now comes Lolito Go…

THE GHOSTWRITER

Who is Lolito Go? Lolito is a songwriter and lyricist for major labels such as Star Music PH and GMA Music. Mr. Go started making rounds in the internet when he released a allegedly stated, “Moira is more of the oppressor than a victim”. Expressing flak on Dela Torre’s cheating on her husband, playing the victim and many more.

Lolito claimed that he was the man behind Moira’s hit songs—making him her ghostwriter. Go went on and challenged the Tagpuan singer that he will release screenshots of messenger conversations between him and Dela Torre over the alleged ghostwriting job that he was hired for and that he was paid P20,000 in which he stated was “insulting” and that his name did not make it to the song credits as agreed upon, allegedly.

The alleged ghostwriter calls what he is doing as “War For Peace”.

Mr. Go then released the screenshot with the following captions:

Deactivated na ang account. Wala na yung name. But the truth can never be deactivated.

P.S.

Nowhere in my post did I say a ghostwriter was "employed." The operative term I used was "offered." Inalok.

Kasi kung employed ako, may NDA--di ko na sana madidisclose ito.

Masaya ako sa chat na yan, kasi iniisip ko, kahit di na ako marecognize at least bayad ako.

More resibos to follow.

THE OTHER GHOSTWRITER

Well, you probably guessed who he is! Jason Marvin, the soft-spoken singer’s ex-husband. It is alleged by Lolito Go that Marvin wrote 95% of Moira’s hit songs yet all credits went to Dela Torre. Songs like 'Paubaya,' 'Ikaw at Ako,' 'Pabilin,' 'EDSA,' 'Patawad,' 'Kumpas,' 'Babalik Sayo,' 'Saglit,' and the list goes on.

Jason also played in almost all of Dela Torre’s shows, acoustic jams and live performance as lead guitarist.

MOIRA FIGHTS BACK

Dela Torre, 29, released a public statement to answer the allegations spreading online by Mr. Lolito Go. In a long post that she released on May 30, 2023, Moira expressed saying,

"I never imagined that I would find myself in a situation where I have to explain and defend my decision to leave a marriage, as well as justify the state of my mental health,"

"It is truly disheartening that I am being questioned and asked to prove my worth as a songwriter and artist. However, despite the overwhelming circumstances, I feel a strong inner calling to stand up for myself and protect my integrity,"

Dela Torre’s mother, Raquel Dela Torre also chimed in and shared her two-cents on Lolito Go’s allegations by sending him a text message.

Photo is taken from Lolito Go’s Facebook Page stating that he had talked to Moira’s parents.

Furthermore, Mr. Go alleged heavy claims on Dela Torre saying,

She tweaked a few lines tas 50-50 na kami. Akin ang words at music!

Sa mga stage binanggit nya na it is an original song, pero walang banggit sa akin.

She posted it twice sa official fan page nya, nakalagay pangalan nya lang. Tinatamad sya ilagay name ko? I gave her the benefit of a doubt. Palagi! Pinagtatanggol ko pa yan sa asawa ko. "Wag kang jugmental kay Moi!" (Libertine will speak up soon.)

As of posting this blog, Lolito edited his post and wrote this:

Addendum:

Right after writing this, I had a heartfelt, tearful talk with Tita Raquel and Tito John. Maraming bagay ang nalinaw. Lumuwag ang mga puso namin. Sana magpatuloy na lang yung ganitong peace. Nasabi ko na rin sa kanila ang mga bagay na hindi ko mabanggit sa social media. Moira's parents are indeed people of God. God was in the middle of us during the talk. Uulitin ko ang sinabi ko sa original post at paninindigan ko ito, we sometimes need dissonance to achieve harmony. We sometimes have to wage war to achieve peace. I needed to call out what needs to be called out. Sana matapos na ito dahil mga marites lang naman ang nag-eenjoy. We will settle things privately. At alam kong makakamove-on din tayong lahat.
